I believe in treating my clients the way I’d like to be treated as a client. Too many lawyers begin their relationships with clients with a hidden conflict of interest. The client wants the legal representation they need, but they don’t want to pursue costly, unproductive projects. Some attorneys, however, fall into the trap of telling their clients what they believe their clients want to hear or what will result in more work for themselves.

Time and money are precious resources. I provide clients with an analysis and opinion regarding their proposed course of action, and recommend only what I believe will best serve to achieve their goals. Looking at a legal problem realistically is a critically important attribute of good legal representation. Wishful thinking is costly.  Clients appreciate the value of total candor.

Some projects are necessarily large projects. Some are not. While benchmarks aid in developing a budget for IP services, it is more useful to strive for return on investment. An attorney can be an active part of creating efficiency in their client’s legal spending only by providing a totally objective analysis of any given project. I live by this standard and my clients can confidently count on forthright communication in every interaction.
